The Arena

The underground arena beneath Tokyo Dome was full for the first time in a year. Word had spread through the fight world that the Kengan Association had sent its most dangerous hired fist, Ohma Tokita, to challenge the arena’s champion. Nobody here cared about the business deal behind it. They cared about blood on the sand.

Baki walked out in plain trousers, barefoot, smiling. Ohma rolled his shoulders, looked around the packed stands, and said only, “Let’s make it quick. I’m hungry.”

Round One

Ohma came in with the Niko Style, his body flowing between strikes and redirections, catching Baki’s first kick and turning its force back into his knee. Baki’s leg buckled. The crowd gasped.

Baki laughed, because he loves nothing more than seeing a new technique. He watched Ohma redirect the next strike, and the one after that, and by the fourth exchange he was doing it back. Ohma’s eyes widened as his own redirection was turned on him and he crashed shoulder-first into the sand.

Ohma stopped smiling. He switched rhythms, mixing feints with real strikes, and caught Baki with a spinning back fist that split his eyebrow. Blood ran into Baki’s eye; he wiped it away and kept his guard low, inviting more. The two traded in the centre of the sand for a full minute, neither giving ground, the crowd on its feet.

The Turn

Ohma activated the Advance. His heart pounded like a drum, blood flooding his muscles, skin flushed red, and he moved faster than he had any right to. A flurry of Iron Bones strikes caught Baki on the ribs and jaw, and the champion was knocked off his feet for the first time in the night.

Baki stayed down a moment, listening. He could hear it: the frantic rhythm of Ohma’s heart, too fast, too loud. He understood what the Advance was costing.

The Finish

So Baki stopped trading. He defended, slipped and absorbed, for a full minute, letting Ohma burn through the power the Advance gave him. It hurt. Twice Baki nearly went down. But the drumbeat of Ohma’s heart began to stumble.

The moment Ohma slowed, Baki exploded off the sand with the cockroach dash and drove a whip strike across Ohma’s chest, then a knee to the jaw that lifted him off his feet. Ohma hit the ground and did not rise.

The medics rushed in. Ohma waved them off from the floor, grinning through blood. “Next time, I won’t hold the Advance back.” Baki crouched beside him. “Next time, I’ll have learned it.” The crowd stamped the stands for ten minutes.

The verdict

Baki Hanma wins

Ohma’s Niko Style and the Advance push Baki harder than most opponents, but Baki copies techniques mid-fight and is patient enough to outlast the Advance, which wears Ohma’s body down.

  • AdaptabilityBaki learns Ohma’s redirections in a single exchange.
  • PatienceHe survives the Advance instead of meeting it head-on.
  • Finishing powerHis explosive starts end the fight the moment Ohma slows.

How the rematch could go differently: A fully healed Ohma with his later mastery of the Advance and the Kengan techniques he learns could end it before Baki adapts.
