The Arena
Blade tracked the most powerful vampire signature he had ever detected to a ruined cathedral in London. Inside, a tall figure in a red coat and wide-brimmed hat sat on the altar, smiling at him with far too many teeth. “Ah,” said Alucard. “A dhampir. How delightful. Have you come to kill me?”
Blade drew his sword and loaded his silver stakes. “That’s the plan.” Alucard stood, drawing two enormous pistols. “Then please,” he said, “try your very best. It has been so long since anyone did.”
Round One
Blade opened fire with silver bullets and threw a fan of silver stakes. Alucard took every one of them without moving, his body riddled with holes, and kept smiling. Then the wounds sealed, and he raised the Jackal and fired back, the massive bullets driving Blade behind a pillar.
Blade moved in close with his sword and cut Alucard nearly in half. The two halves of the vampire laughed, reached for each other and rejoined. Blade had killed hundreds of vampires. He had never seen one do that.
Blade switched tactics, fast and close, blade work so quick that Alucard had to block with the barrels of his guns. Steel rang in the empty cathedral. For a few heartbeats the old vampire actually stopped smiling.
The Turn
Blade did not give up. He hit Alucard with a vial of his own serum, the anticoagulant that kills vampires from the inside, and for a moment it worked. Alucard staggered, his body bubbling and dissolving. “Oh, that is clever,” he said, delighted.
Then Alucard released his restraints. The shadows in the cathedral came alive with countless eyes and mouths, black hounds and familiars pouring out of his body. He was not just one vampire. He was thousands of lives he had devoured, and each of them had to be killed before he could die.
The Finish
Blade fought through wave after wave of familiars, cutting down hounds and shadows with brutal efficiency. He was magnificent, Alucard thought, watching with real admiration. But he was one man against an army that lived inside a single vampire.
A black hound caught Blade’s arm, another his leg, and the shadows pinned him to the cathedral floor. Alucard knelt beside him, his body reforming from darkness. He did not bite. He simply looked down at the dhampir with something close to affection.
“You are a dog of humanity, just as I am,” he said. “I hope you never stop hunting.” He let the shadows release Blade and walked out into the blood-red night. Blade lay there for a long time, staring at the broken ceiling, already planning a better serum.
The verdict
Alucard wins
Blade is the deadliest vampire hunter alive and nearly gets a kill with his serum, but Alucard is effectively immortal, carrying thousands of lives inside him, each of which must be destroyed before he can fall.
- ImmortalityAlucard has thousands of lives to burn through.
- RegenerationHe reforms from almost any wound, even being cut in half.
- FamiliarsHis shadow army overwhelms a single fighter.
How the rematch could go differently: A serum designed for Alucard’s unique nature, applied before he released his restraints, could end his thousands of lives at once.
