The Arena
Frank Castle had followed a trail of dead gangsters to a nightclub in Manhattan, convinced a new killer was moving into his city. John Wick had come to the same club to collect a debt from the owner, who was already dead on the dance floor when he arrived.
Each assumed the other had done it. They saw each other through the haze of a smoke machine at the same moment, raised their pistols at the same moment, and the music kept playing.
Round One
Frank fired first, a tight pair at centre mass. John was already moving, sliding behind a pillar, the rounds chewing plaster beside his ear, and answered from the floor with two shots that drove Frank behind the bar in a shower of glass.
What followed was a running gun battle through three rooms of mirrors and strobe lights. Frank fought like a Marine clearing a building: methodical, covering angles, changing magazines behind solid cover. John fought like water, always moving, firing on the move, using every reflection to see where Frank was before Frank saw him.
The Turn
Frank brought out heavier tools. A grenade from his belt turned the VIP lounge into fire and smoke. A shotgun from under his coat blew a velvet booth apart a heartbeat after John left it. For a moment he thought he had won.
Then John came out of the smoke, closer than Frank expected, and the fight changed. Up close, Frank is a brutal brawler. John is something else: gun-fu, judo and a knife fighter’s instincts, every movement flowing into the next. He disarmed the shotgun, threw Frank over his hip and put him through a glass table.
The Finish
Frank got up bleeding and swinging. He landed a headbutt that broke John’s nose and a knee that cracked his ribs, and for thirty seconds it was a street fight, two exhausted men grinding each other down among the broken glass.
John never stopped moving. He trapped Frank’s arm, swept his leg, and rode him down to the floor in a choke, the way he has ended a hundred fights in a hundred dark rooms. Frank fought it, then fought it less, then went still.
John did not finish him. He searched Frank’s coat, found the case file on the murdered gangsters, and realised they had been hunting the same man. When Frank woke up, his own pistol was on his chest, unloaded, with a gold coin taped to the grip and a note: “Not you. Him. Good luck.”
The verdict
John Wick wins
Frank brings more firepower and military discipline, but John Wick is faster, better at fighting while moving, and far more dangerous at close range, where the fight is finally decided.
- Close-quarters skillWick blends gunplay, grappling and knife work seamlessly.
- MovementHe fights on the move, never giving a set position to target.
- Endurance under fireWick routinely finishes fights through injuries that stop others.
How the rematch could go differently: In a long-range engagement where Frank could prepare positions and heavy weapons, his military tactics would give him the edge.
