The Arena
Homelander had grown used to being the only god in the sky. So when news footage showed a moustached man in a red cape stopping a falling plane on the other side of the world, faster and stronger than he was supposed to be, Homelander took it personally.
He found Omni-Man hovering above an empty stretch of the Pacific, arms folded, as if he had been expecting him. Homelander gave his best camera smile. Omni-Man looked him up and down the way a drill sergeant looks at a recruit, and said, “You have never been in a real fight, have you?”
Round One
Homelander answered with his eyes. Twin beams of heat lanced across the sky, and Omni-Man flew straight through them, taking the burn on his forearms, and hit Homelander in the face so hard the shock wave flattened the sea below into a circle of white foam.
It was the first time in years anyone had hurt Homelander. He spun through the air, more shocked than injured, and touched his nose. There was blood on his glove. For a moment, before the rage came, he looked very young.
The Turn
Homelander came back screaming, all fury and strength, and for a while it worked. He is genuinely powerful. A haymaker caught Omni-Man in the ribs and sent him skipping across the ocean like a stone; the heat vision, aimed properly this time, scorched a black line down his side.
But Homelander fought like a man who had only ever needed to win in one hit. He telegraphed every blow. He flew in straight lines. Omni-Man, who was trained on Viltrum to fight beings as strong as himself, simply read him. Every haymaker met an elbow. Every charge met a knee. Every beam of heat met empty air where Omni-Man had been a heartbeat before.
The Finish
Omni-Man caught Homelander’s cape, wrapped it around his fist and dragged him down into the ocean, hammering him all the way to the seabed in the black water where no camera could follow. Homelander’s heat vision lit the depths red, then flickered, then went out.
When they surfaced, Omni-Man was holding Homelander by the collar, the blond hair plastered across his face, his eyes unfocused. Omni-Man studied him with something close to pity. “They gave you all this power,” he said, “and never taught you to fight. On my world, you would not have lasted a week.”
He dropped Homelander onto the deck of a fishing boat, where a stunned crew stared at the most famous superhero alive lying in a pile of nets, and flew away. The footage the crew took that night was bought and buried by Vought within the hour.
The verdict
Omni-Man wins
In raw power the two are close, but Omni-Man is a trained Viltrumite soldier with centuries of experience against opponents as strong as himself, and Homelander has never fought anyone who could hurt him.
- Combat trainingViltrumites train from childhood to fight others of equal strength.
- ExperienceOmni-Man has conquered worlds; Homelander has posed for cameras.
- ComposureHomelander’s rage makes him predictable once he is hurt.
How the rematch could go differently: If Homelander opened with a precise heat-vision strike to the eyes before Omni-Man closed the distance, the fight could swing his way.
